The Pursuit of Christ

Christmas at Acton Baptist

This Christmas, discover the God who comes close. From Mary’s journey to Elizabeth, to shepherds stirred awake, to wise men drawn by a distant star—every step of the story reveals a Savior in pursuit of His people.

As Mary traveled to Elizabeth, she carried more than news—she carried a promise. A promise that asked her to trust God’s plan and believe in His presence in her life.

Mary reminds us that God isn’t distant—He works in us, shaping, calling, and giving purpose. As His image-bearers, we’re invited to trust Him in our own journeys.

So ask yourself: What do you believe about God—and about His work in you?

The Wise Men followed a distant star, seeking a King they had never seen. Their journey reminds us that God often draws near in ways we don’t expect, using signs, people, and moments to get our attention.

God is not distant or passive—He pursues us, inviting us to turn, to follow, and to worship. Like the Wise Men, we are called to notice, to respond, and to move toward the Savior.

So ask yourself: Are you paying attention to the ways God is seeking you today?

The shepherds were ordinary, overlooked people—yet God invited them to the manger to witness His Son’s birth. In that simple, humble place, they saw that God values every life and gives purpose to those often forgotten.

God doesn’t just call the important or powerful—He calls each of us, placing meaning and worth in the everyday. Like the shepherds, we are invited to step into God’s story and see our lives through His eyes.

So ask yourself: Do you see how God values you and the purpose He has for your life?

Joseph faced uncertainty, yet he obeyed God’s call to take Mary to Bethlehem. In his faithfulness, we see how God places a sense of “oughtness” on our lives—guiding us to do what is right, even when it’s difficult or unclear.

God invites us to align our steps with His purposes, trusting that His plan is bigger than our fears. Like Joseph, we are called to act with courage and integrity, letting God lead us in the paths He sets.

So ask yourself: Are you listening to the call God has placed on your life, and willing to follow where He leads?

In letters to Southern Baptists in America, she pleaded for increasing prayer and giving. her letters raised more support for missionaries to be sent to China.
