Paul begins Romans by reminding us of the heart of the gospel: Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came into the world, lived the perfect life we could never live, died in our place, and rose again. Through faith in Him, we are forgiven and made new. We have been rescued.
But being rescued isn't the end of the story.
Paul understood that the gospel wasn't something to keep to himself. He was set apart to proclaim it, and he longed to see the church strengthened so that the gospel could continue moving forward. The same gospel that rescued Paul had given him a mission.
That's true for us too.
Jesus didn't save us simply so we could gather together on Sunday and enjoy being part of His church. He saved us so that His life in us would overflow into the world around us. We gather because of what Christ has done for us—but we go because of what Christ wants to do through us.
Someone around you needs to hear the good news. Someone needs to know that their sin can be forgiven, that their past doesn't have to define them, and that there is hope because Jesus is alive.
You don't have to have all the answers. You don't have to be a Bible scholar. You simply need to be willing to let the gospel that rescued you become the gospel you share.
You have been rescued. Now go tell someone about your Rescuer.

- What is one opportunity this week to point someone toward Jesus?
Pray:
Jesus, thank You for rescuing me. Thank You for Your death, resurrection, forgiveness, and grace. Help me not to be ashamed of the gospel. Give me courage to share what You have done in my life and to faithfully point others toward You. Amen.
