It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking Christianity is about doing the right things. We can compare ourselves to other Christians, our church background, how often we attend church, how much Bible we know, or how well we think we’re living. Before long, we can convince ourselves that our “lane” is the right one.
But Paul tears down that thinking in Romans 2–3. No one is righteous. Jews and Gentiles, churchgoers and outsiders—we all stand on the same ground. None of us can earn our way to God through our lifestyle, our religious activity, or our accomplishments.
That’s why the gospel is such good news. Our relationship with God isn’t based on what we have done. It is based on what Jesus has done for us.
We aren’t saved because we have the right label, follow the right traditions, or live a good enough life. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus. And when we understand that, it changes how we see ourselves and how we see everyone else.
We have nothing to brag about except Jesus.

- Are you more focused on how you compare to others or on what Jesus has done for you?
- How could remembering God’s grace change the way you treat other people?
Pray:
Jesus, remind me that I have nothing to boast about except You. Thank You that my salvation doesn’t depend on how good I am, but on Your grace and what You have done for me. Help me stop comparing myself to others and instead point them toward You. Let my life be shaped by knowing and following You. Amen.
